Plante vivace de 10-30 cm, glabre, à bulbe gros ovale
Écologie : (répartition d'après la flore) Prairies et lieux incultes, dans la Provence, le Languedoc, le Sud-Ouest, le Lyonnais, presque toujours issu d'anciennes [ou récentes] cultures. Vue comme eschappée au plus sud de notre région.
Répartition hors de France : Région méditerranéenne.

Perennial, 10-30 cm, with a large oval bulb.
Ecology UK: Not native to the UK. Grassland/wasteland in Provence and Languedoc, the SW and the Lyonnais, almost always derived from former cultivation. Only seen as an escapee in the very south of our region.
Distribution outseide France: Mediterranean.
Fleurs : jaune d'or, grande (4-5 cm), dressée, solitaire, sortant d'une spathe membraneuse univalve, lancéolée, embrassant l'ovaire et égalant la moitié du périanthe ; périanthe en entonnoir, à tube court et étroit, sans couronne à la gorge, à 6 divisions égales, oblongues-obtuses ; étamines insérées au sommet du tube, 3 plus courtes, à filets filiformes et anthères fixées par le dos ; style filiforme, à stigmate simple
Floraison France : Septembre-octobre
Flowers: golden yellow, large (4-5 cm), upright, single, surrounded by a univalvular membranous spathe; perianth barrel-shaped, tube short and narrow, without a crozn in the throat; 6 equal divisions, oblonge-obtuse; stamens inserted at the tip if the tube, 3 being shorter, with filiform stalks and anthers fixed on the back; stlye thread-like, with a simple style.
